Ukrainian energy provider targeted by Industroyer2 – ESET helps disrupt Zloader botnets – Where do new ideas come from and how are they spread?

In this edition of Week in security, Tony looks at these topics:

  • How ESET researchers worked closely with Ukraine’s CERT on remediating and protecting against an incident where the Sandworm group attempted to deploy a new version of the infamous Industroyer malware against an energy provider in Ukraine.
  • ESET’s work with industry partners on an effort aimed at disrupting the prolific Zloader botnets. While heavily inspired by the Zeus banking trojan, Zloader evolved from a banking trojan into a distributor of several malware families, including various ransomware families.
  • As part of the launch of ESET’s new branding with the tagline, ‘Progress. Protected.’, author Steven Johnson offered his thoughts about the roots of innovation, where new ideas come from and how they spread.
